TEAM GALVIN GREEN SWEDES IN DOUBLE TRIUMPH
Two members of Team Galvin Green won landmark victories at European Tour events staged in contrasting weather conditions over the weekend – helped by the full range of Galvin Green golf performance clothing.
Peter Hanson became the first home player to win the SAS Masters for 10 years when he fired a closing 71 to hold off the field at a cold, wet and windy Arlandastad Golf course in Stockholm. The tall 30-year-old from Svedala who last won on Tour in Spain three years ago, held off the challenge of compatriot Pelle Edberg and England’s Nick Dougherty to finish his national tournament one shot ahead on nine-under par.
Persistent showers and swirling winds made it difficult for Hanson, who often changed into his Galvin Green waterproofs during the course of the final round. In capturing the second European Tour title of his career, Hanson won €266.660 and moved up to 17th in the European Ryder Cup standings to give himself an outside chance of making the team next month.
At the same time in much warmer temperatures in Switzerland, Klas Eriksson shot a stunning final round of 63 – the lowest of his career – to reach a play-off and then win his second European Challenge Tour title at the Trophée du Golf Club de Genève.
Eriksson, who represents the local club in Galvin Green’s home town of Växjö, had fired eleven birdies to finish 14-under par and reach a play-off against overnight leader Dutchman Wil Besseling and Brazilian Alexandre Rocha. He then sunk a 20 foot putt on the fourth extra hole to win his first Challenge Tour title in seven years. His prize money of €24.400 takes him up to fifth in the Challenge Tour rankings.
Other Team Galvin Green members include Colin Montgomerie, Graeme Storm,
Lee Slattery, Joakim Haeggman and Welshman Jamie Donaldson who finished tied eighth in Stockholm. Posted 17.8.08
