Instruction Play better after a lesson: One phrase sums up our basis for teaching: improvement of the ball flight.
I recognised many years ago that people don't take golf lessons to play worse! We, therefore, only implement changes that will improve your golf shots. Golf balls don’t respond to swing changes that are supposed to make your swing look more like Tiger's by flying straighter and further. This can be explained by the simple fact that golf balls don’t have eyes! Neither do they respond to a “better” set-up or backswing position. The ball does, however, always respond to the following impact factors: club face alignment (open / closed) the path on which the club head is traveling the speed of the club head These are the sole factors that determine where your ball will go. The ball doesn't know what happened before, or after, impact! That's why we base our teaching on the one true governor of ball flight - IMPACT. When you come to us for a lesson we will: assess your ball flight characteristics e.g. low hook / high slice relate this to your individual impact situation using the very latest “launch monitor” and video technology implement the necessary changes to improve your impact situation and improve your ball flight make sure you understand and feel comfortable with the changes And we absolutely will not: ask you to change something that won’t directly improve your ball flight try to convince you that Tour Golfer A or B has the best swing in the world, and that you should try to swing just like him or her spend the whole lesson mulling over your positions on the video screen with no regard to how you are actually hitting the ball send you off to play in the next competition confused and lacking in confidence I do hope I’ve given you an insight into how we approach teaching, and what you can expect when you come for a lesson with me or one of my teaching team at Tyrrells Wood.
