The Belfry
Location:
Wishaw, Warwickshire (5 min from Jct 7 of M42 and 10 min north of Birmingham Int Airport)
Golf:
One of the legends of the golf world, The De Vere Belfry is unique in its offer of the ultimate golfing experience. Home to the famous Brabazon Course, which has witnessed the action of four Ryder Cup Matches and numerous European Tour tournaments, it is unquestionably one of the world's most famous golfing resorts. The Brabazon at 7,118 yards, par 72 is the adopted home to the Ryder Cup and conjures up images of the dramatic approach over the lake on to the 18th green - O'Connor's 2 iron, or those winning putts - Torrance and McGinley. It was recently included in the Golf Monthly Top 100 courses in the UK and Ireland.
There are two other courses at The Belfry - The PGA National and Derby courses. The PGA National opened in 1997 and was the first PGA branded course in Europe. It features extensive mounding and a number of water hazards which come into play on eight holes. However, it is the cunningly placed bunkers which are the courses' main defence. All in all, a challenging, yet thoroughly enjoyable test of golf. The Derby, at 6057 yards, par 69 complements the two Championship courses perfectly, providing challenging golf to all standards of golfer.
