History:

Founded by John Edmund Eastwood in the early 1900's West Surrey was officially opened in June 1910 when the reigning Open champion, the renowned J.H.Taylor, drove off in an exhibition foursomes.

The course was designed by the famous architect of that time, W Herbert Fowler, who created nearly 40 courses in England , Scotland , Wales and America , and most famously Walton Heath.

A report of the event by the Surrey Times predicted that West Surrey would become one of the most attractive courses in the south of England , and it certainly enjoys a beautiful and peaceful of location. Its main features are thee tree-lined fairways and lovely views of the Surrey landscape. The course is quite hilly, winding slowly upwards towards its highest point of 440 feet above sea level, round the 16th tee.

Until recently the course measured 6,259 yards but with the replacement of all greens to USGA standard this has been extended to 6,482 yards. Finest quality greens and the introduction of fairway watering ensures the course is always presented to the highest standard at all times of the year.

The Clubhouse:

The Clubhouse, which incorporates the bricks, tiles and oak posts from three old barns that once stood on the site, has the charm and character of a 19th century farmhouse. At the same time, however, it offers the excellent facilities that today's golfer expects.
